What happened
Tim May, Eric Hughes and John Gilmore start the Cypherpunks mailing list, where privacy, anonymity and digital cash would be debated for over a decade.
Significance
The intellectual home of nearly everyone in Bitcoin's lineage — Back, Dai, Szabo, Finney. Bitcoin is, in many ways, a cypherpunk project finally realized.
